Proposals are currently being accepted for stormwater quality education proposals for grant programs targeted to begin March 1, 2010 and continue through February 28, 2011.
Proposals are due by 2:00 PM on December 11, 2009 to the Johnson County Office of Financial Management at Suite 2400, 110 Cherry St., Olathe, KS.
The Johnson County Stormwater Management Program provides grant funding to teachers, schools, and school districts in Johnson County and to non-profit organizations serving the citizens of Johnson County to allow opportunities for stormwater education. Education and public participation accomplished using these grant funds helps the cities of Johnson County as well as the unincorporated area to meet public education and outreach and public participation and involvement requirements of the National Pollution Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
Target areas for funding are programs designed to inform citizens, schools, large land owners and businesses about the impact of stormwater runoff on surface water quality and what can be done to reduce stormwater pollution. Also programs that encourage participation and involvement of citizens or schools in learning about stormwater runoff or improving water quality.
Example programs are, but are not limited to:
Rain barrel and rain garden workshops for homeowners and homeowner associations
Stormwater and water quality education programs for school-aged children
Stream teams formed to monitor neighborhood streams
Watershed based clean-up or stream clean-ups days
Education programs for small farm owners
