USGS Mill Creek Sediment Source Study
The Johnson County Stormwater Management Program in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is currently operating a sediment source tracking network in the Mill Creek watershed. The purpose of this network is to estimate suspended-sediment loading at the subwatershed scale, and to link sediment transport to land use and other characteristics within the basin. Definition of sediment loading on the subwatershed scale presents a further opportunity for more precise monitoring to characterize actual sources of suspended sediments. Smaller scale monitoring can also be used to characterize the effectiveness of best management practices (BMPs) and place them in context with sediment-transport characteristics throughout the Mill Creek watershed.
