The Johnson County Stormwater Management Program (JCSMP) will complete measurable goals in bold italics.

 

Year 2 (October 2005-September 2006)

The following public education and outreach measures will be initiated prior to the date two years after the effective date of this permit.  The actual measures as presented in this Stormwater Management Plan may be modified in subsequent years as provided in the required annual review.

 

1.      Newsletter in Wastewater Utility Bill

Develop and distribute insert on a stormwater quality topic to include with one Johnson County Wastewater billing cycle. Such topics may include a newsletter, or a brochure on such themes such as “Pick Up After Your Pet,” “Storm Drain Stewardship,” “Wash Your Car the Right Way  “Fat-free Sewers” or other relevant topic.

            Schedule:  Within two years of the effective date of the permit.

            Measurement: 125,000 copies printed.  Number of copies distributed

            (121,524 residential households 5/11/2005) through billing cycle

            Responsible Entity: Johnson County Stormwater Management Program

 

2.      Support For Water Quality Initiatives for Schools and Community

Support implementation of school curricula and community education towards promoting healthy watersheds. For 2005-2006, this will include providing $75,000 for annual Water Quality initiative Grants to support watershed organizations, other not-for-profit organizations, and school-based efforts towards implementing programs that focus on public education, outreach, participation and involvement in stormwater quality and flood mitigation issues in Johnson County, Kansas.

            Schedule:  Within two years of the effective date of the permit.

            Measurement:  Description of implementation efforts completed; documentation

             of grants awarded; summary of work completed through grant funding

a.      Maintain and update the stormwater management website developed in Year 1 and continue to provide link available to cities.  Include a copy of the Model Stormwater Management Plan developed for Years 2-5, and periodic information pieces on stormwater topics.

            Measurement:  Website on-line; documentation of website

4.      Citizen Outreach/Educational Materials

Participate in Kansas City metropolitan regional public education and outreach effort “Good Neighbors Care About Clean Water”.  This planned regional effort includes use of radio advertising, print media, internet and support of regional initiatives focused on public education and involvement for water quality issues.

            Schedule:  Within two years of the effective date of the permit.

Measurement:  Funding provided, number of distributions made (e.g. one in spring and one in summer is two distributions), number of regional educational events supported.

Review the public education activities completed in year two and planned for the remaining years of the permit. Revise the Stormwater Management Plan as required.
